ABOUT THE COFFEE TABLE .CO.UK
I started making wooden coffee tables and other
furniture from
a
workshop in my garden over 17 years ago after first attending night
school for 2 years to obtain my City & Guilds bench joiners
qualification whilst during the day training at a company making custom
made furniture.
After establishing my own company I have gradually tended towards
specialising in wooden coffee tables although I still construct other
furniture from time to time.
I have been creating my own designs of coffee tables since starting out, (getting the proportions and the style right, working out construction details, selecting which grain of timber to use where), and although I am quite happy to make coffee tables to a traditional design, I always welcome the challenge of coming up with more original styles of coffee tables.
In future, I will be adding a page to this site with sketches of
original designs of coffee tables that I would like to build, adding
further choice to the range of wooden coffee tables available here.
The construction of the coffee tables, starting with the selection of
the best planks from the timber importers right through to the rubbing
down for the final coat of finish to be applied, is given the attention
to detail that only a custom made coffee table could justify.
THE ADVANTAGES OF CUSTOM MADE COFFEE TABLES
Whilst custom made wooden coffee tables will always
be more
expensive
than coffee tables churned out by mass production, they can offer
considerable advantages to the discerning customer.
The wooden coffee tables I make are constructed using traditional
methods such as mortise & tenon joints and are designed to last
for
generations.
Each coffee table is made of solid hardwood and any knocks or wear they
receive over their lifetime will not reveal a different material
beneath such as will be the case with coffee tables made using veneers.
Opting for custom made wooden coffee tables gives you the choice of
having your them made to the exact size that you require rather than
having to accept a standard size from a factory.
You can have your coffee table made from a range of different European
or American hardwoods from sustainable sources and in any style you
prefer.
The coffee tables are finished by hand with two coats of water based lacquer of a type normally used for sealing hard wood floors giving them an extremely durable finish.
